The Look for Less

I just came across this article in this months Harpers Bazaar.  It's all about cheap chic and how "true style setters" don't solely rely on super expensive high end designer clothes to be fashion forward anymore. They mix high and low like Kate (yes again) in this picture above.  This is what I find interesting..... Fashion insiders and leaders are acting like this is some new thing..  all of a sudden shopping at Target and Thrift Stores is cool and fashion forward. SO ANNOYING. Us "real" people, with "real" bank accounts have been doing this since the beginning of time. I remember back in high school (and yes this was a long, very long time ago) we would shop the thrift stores looking for cool finds to go with our "expensive" Guess jeans. Even just 3 years ago I rocked a Chloe bag with a dress I got from Ross. Nice to know the fashion "leaders" are leading.

Bright Blue Vintage 80's Handbag

I just picked up this super cool Vintage bag. It's bright blue (very popular color right now) and has some really cool gold hardware on it. Totally 80's! I'm auctioning it for a lovely price at http://stores.ebay.com/Integrated-Vintage. I also just found a great Vintage hippie dress just like the ones Gerard Darel is doing ( as mentioned in a previous post) I'll be auctioning it off this weekend! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.......

Alice & Olivia

This is exactly the kind of dress I've been looking for! Long with the double straps and pleating... how can you resist! Plus I am so in love with this color, although it's hard to pull off.
Especially for me. You can't really wear yellow, when you are yellow. HA! Available at shopbop.com.

Aflict Slingbacks

Since I wrote about the beautiful Miu Miu flats yesterday, I've been on the hunt for something similar but much more wallet friendly. I just came upon these flashy slingbacks from Forever 21. No they aren't exactly like the Miu Miu's but I do like the rhinestones and I'm always a sucker for an open-toe slingback. Hmmmmm... Now that I really look at them, maybe they're a little tacky, no???? What the hell... you can't lose for 23.oo dollars!

Miu Miu

These Miu Miu embellished flats are sooooooo gorgeous!  I love the detailing of grosgrain around the edges, the metallic color, and especially the Swarovski crystals near the open-toe. They are perfect to take from day to night, when you don't have the time to run home and change. Gorg!!!!

Versace vs. Urban Oufitters

I just fell in love with the Versace looks for Spring and since my tiny little bank account couldn't handle a real Versace dress, I searched high and low for something similiar. A very difficult task indeed. I ended up going with this cute little chiffon teal number from Urban Outfitters. It actually comes in 6 great colors AND it was only $48.00 dollars. Unsure of the cost of the Versace dress, but I'm guessing you'd add a few more zeroes.

Kate

Oh our beloved Kate. In our beloved rosette sandals.  Now if only I could figure out who does these and where I can buy them. That's the problem when you buy Vogue in languages you can't read. I just adore these flat sandals, and her. She has become quite the fashionista. I remember young Kate surfing the big waves of the North Shore in Blue Crush. ( and yeah I loved the movie, so what!) Okay..... if anyone out there knows anything about these little babies.. PLEASE let us know!

Paul & Joe

I know... it's been a snooze-fest around here lately. We apologize. Anywayyyyyyysssssss, there are so many looks I love from Paul & Joe right now I just couldn't decide which ones to post! So I picked a few. I really like what they've done for Spring. The one piece jumpsuits, the bright colors, especially the funky 80's style boots. I want it all!

Prada Blouson Dress

If we only had the bank account for such a lovely piece! (sigh) This dress costs significantly more then the one mentioned below, but this Prada blouson dress with a drop waist in a dreamy sea foam green, would be well worth spending a months rent for! It's ultra feminine!
Hmmmmm. I wonder what my Visa limit is???!!!!

70's Disco Dress

This fun and flirty 70's disco style dress is just one of the many things I'm currently bidding on, on ebay. (and yes its 100% polyester) The perfect little dress for Spring and Summer! I've mentioned this store before... Vintage & Designer Deals for All, really does have one of the best and biggest selections of Vintage clothing. Always at an amazing price! Most auctions start at a mere .99 cents! How can you beat that?!

Pepe Jeans London

I always think Pepe Jeans does great campaigns. I'm especially enjoying the new ads with Daria Werbowy and Ashton Kutcher. (nice to know Mr. Demi Moore is working these days) Thing is, I can never seem to find any of the cool clothes. I've searched the internet far and wide...... Anyone?

Gerard Darel

French designer Gerard Darel's Spring line reminds me of the gauzy hippie-ish skirts I wore my freshman year in high school. We use to go crazy at the thrift stores looking for these things. His muse Charlotte Gainsbourg (yes Jane Birkin's daughter) models one of the looks in the new Spring campaign. I am in LOVEEEEEEEEE with the bags. Especially in bright purple!

More from the streets of Japan....

They call this look "GothLoli"..... for all of you that are totally out of it, that stands for Gothic-Lolita.  (ha! okay... I just learned this myself) It seems the tourists in Japan freak out and think it's some sort of Japanese Halloween when they see these kids on the streets. Little do they know these lovely ladies are just enjoying a nice day of lunch and shopping. Stupid westerners!  ;)

Tokyo New Tribe

Street Style in Japan is always interesting.  I don't think there are many other places in the world you can find underground street fashion like in Tokyo. Can you imagine the looks you would get walking down the street dressed like a fairy princess or a fashionable maid?? It may not be for most of us, but you can definitely be inspired by the risks they take.

muumuuheaven.com

Just looking through the latest Lucky magazine and came across an editors pick for favorite websites. muumuuheaven.com is the online store for the little shop in Kailua that sells the cutest tops, dresses, and accessories. Perfect styles and tropical prints for the Spring and Summer seasons ahead. Unfortunately they have no tops on their website currently but I'll definitely keep checking back!

3.1 Phillip Lim Metallic Cord Tunic

I am really feeling this white tunic blouse by Phillip Lim. I love the detailing of gold and silver cords that hang around your neck. Stunning! No need to worry about wearing accessories with this top.... it's built in. It's 100% silk and has a key-hole button closure in the back. Love!

Hats

So I am on the hunt for a great hat this season. I've seen a few in the mags that I've liked and I'm pretty sure I'm going with something basket-weave straw. Goorin always makes fun hats, the boyfriend frequents the little Goorin hat shop on Melrose, but their website has a great selection. This Mojito II hat is only $33.00 dollars! Just can't decide if this is this one!

More from Urban Outfitters

I have been trying to post all day..... finally! Computers! Anyways... the weather has been soooo nice lately, huh? I am so ready to take off the boots and sweaters and put on some fun flirty summery clothes asap! As you have already read, I have a fondness for Urban Outfitters that I had once lost.  Some fun clothes from their latest catalogue. I love the skinny pin stripe pants with all the buttons and the high waist. Too bad they would be ultra unflattering on me. Hopefully someone can rock them!

Multi-Chain Layered Necklaces

Well, well... what do we have here?! Seems everyone brought out the layers of chains during Fall Fashion Week! Givenchy showed huge layered pieces at their Fall runway show... even show attendees got in on the act! It's a hard look to pull off... very severe, but very fashion forward. The bottom two looks... (plug alert!) much more subtle. Easier to pull off and I'll guarantee much much much cheaper! Beat all the gals to this trend and visit: http://stores.ebay.com/Integrated-Vintage

Project Runway - Finale

Noooooo! I can't believe it's over. Guess I'm stuck with American Idol and the crappy Lipstick Jungle for entertainment. We are soooooooo happpy for Christian. Not that I could or would ever wear his clothes, but he is so talented and so much fun.  I never thought I would see sassy Ferosh shed tears but before they even announced the winner he started.... (I must admit I shed some tears of my own) Yeah Christian!!!!  I thought all the designers did really great work, like Tim said.. the bar has been raised after this season.

Vivienne Westwood

I just thought this was fun, since we don't see much of Vivienne Westwood here in the states. Vivienne is know for revolutionizing the fashion world with partner Malcolm McLaren way back in the day when they were supplying clothes to the Sex Pistols. She still owns the same little shop where the band picked up all their clothes. Not only that one, but nine other shops in England, with the last scheduled to open this year in Nottingham. Although she may not be in the public eye as much as she use to be, she is still a huge influence on the fashion forward.

Target - Jovovich/Hawk

Just got back from checking out the Jovovich-Hawk line at Target. I was looking forward to seeing what they would come up with for Target, since I'm a fan of their regular line. I really, really tried to buy something, but just couldn't get into any of it. I thought a couple of the tops were okay...but the quality just seemed so poor and nothing was very fashion forward.  I ended up buying a top by Mossimo instead.

Chanel Sunglasses

Here they are... the new Chanel sunglasses I bought last week! I decided to use some Nordys gift-cards that were piling up and make a fun purchase! I really, really wanted traditional style aviators, but every time I tried on a pair the sales girl made a funny little face like she was smelling something bad.  Guess they just don't work on my odd shaped face. Ha! Anyways, these were about as close as I could get to the aviator, a little flashy I know, but I love em!!

More from the Streets of Paris

Some of our favorites from the sartorialist, catching the fashionable on their way to the Fall shows. The Paris girls are big on layering, and there are those bright tights again!
